Damn it. I found EXACT LY what I want. An Essence (top of the line) trim level with remote start, heated seats, and automatic climate control. For $22k! About an hour from my house.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
With the 0% financing, a small down payment, and the trade-in of my 6, I’d only be financing like 8 grand.
It’s a pipe dream but damn, a tempting dream.

If you can really truly get this price with all the terms and conditions and fine print satisfied, do it! Because 39% off MSRP is as good as you can get with a new vehicle that isn’t over inflated in price or sucks, to begin with.
But then again, think of this. a one year or two used model with hardly any miles on them would be the same price. These lose value like a rock.

Why is it a pipe dream? Sounds like a pretty good deal for a vehicle you like. Might be the sort of deal you regret not doing a year or two from now....

Agreed. Literally the only option it lacks that I like is a sunroof, but I could get over that if I had remote start and heated seats - two things my 6 doesn’t have that I wish it did.

I dunno if you can swing it financially, but I’d consider it. With this trim, you’ll get the better interior materials so that it will feel like the premium car it’s supposed to be, but at a more pedestrian price. Your 6 is great, but this would be an upgrade in the family department, especially for road trips. Your kid’s legs won’t stay that short much longer. :)

When we were shopping for the Terrain we found a Denali at a local dealership with an MSRP of $43k and their equivalent of the “John Jones D iscount” that brought it down to $34k . Well it turns out that their “discount” was really just rolling up every possible discount GM offers, even mutually exclusive ones. In order t o get that $34k price I would have to be an active duty military veteran (?!?) who is a teacher and volunteer fire fighter on the side and also a recent college graduate but still a college student (? grad student maybe?) who has purchased a new GM within the last 3 years but is also trading in a competitors vehicle that was also purchased within the last 3 years and I’m planning to lease this vehicle but also buy it at the same time .
GM (and by extension many of their dealers) play a lot of number games, so manage expectations, but it’s at least worth checking out.

These have a ton of interior space. Rear seat is roomy, and the cargo area is great as well. I’ve said it before, there are times I regret not going back and giving it a second test drive.

True. The online KBB thingy offered me $12k trade-in for my 6. But, it’s been my experience that the dealer and I can negotiate that upwards.
Our CX-5’s trade-in value was like $6k and they gave us $8,750.

It drove ok. It’s not a sports car, but it’s also not an SUV. The interior felt cheap to me and soured my entire experience of the car, though. That’s why I should’ve gone back and driven it again so that I could have better expectations of the interior to allow me to be more objective about its driving dynamics.

Yet you can buy a GM luxury truck with no more passenger or cargo room that is a much nicer place to be. Priorities are out of whack.
I wholly agree with going in there and taking a test drive as someone who anticipated the release of these Tour-X.

Parked right next to one of these at the Y this weekend in the Alltrack. Not that the Buick was ever in the cards for me because it’s Auto only, and a Buick. Yick! That interior... and exterior IMHO. It’s bigger than the Alltrack, but that’s not a good thing for me at least. I get that these things are a great “deal” compared to their sticker price, but I spent less on the Alltrack and it is a far nicer car.
EDIT: Just kidding I thought it was 28, not 22. Still I’d make the same decision if I had to pay sticker for the Alltrack.

Working the deal online with them, I got it to $24k OTD and a payment of $170-ish.

For $22k I’d consider living with the subpar interior, terrible ride/noise, and terrible trans.
For the $35k+ they’re bringing up here, hard pass.

That’s a weird dollar amount, isn’t it? It’s not a full car loan, so often not big enough to draw a good rate (although 0% from the manufacturer cures that problem), but it’s big enough that it torpedoes a young family’s tight budget.

I went into them objective as I really wanted one in my driveway. The interior ( regardless of trim level ) was a giant turn off. Then came the ride and road noise, both of which were absolutely obnoxious IMO. Then came the terrible transmission that never knew what it should be doing unless you drove like you were 80.
After driving a handful of them I came away with the same thought every time, it’s a cheap econobox with a luxury price tag. When your $35k+ luxury wagon makes my base model minivan feel luxurious you know you’re doing something wrong.

We could stomach it easily as far as budgeting but actually doing so would be annoying. Just have to decide if the annoying aspect outweighs the cool car aspect.
I freaking love wagons. Always have. If Mazda sold the 6 wagon here, I’d have one. Plain and simple. But, they don’t. And, I don’t have a Volvo or VW dealer close to me. The closest ones are an hour away.
The Buick dealer, on the other hand, is 4 miles from my house.

I hear you. The day you finally drop a car payment from your monthly budget feels like a national holiday.
Yeah we don’t get the 6 wagon and that’s a shame, but if they can’t bring in enough numbers on the CX models, I don’t blame them. The most direct option to an Essence trim TourX in my mind is a Volvo, and you’re not getting one of those for anything near this TourX price. That’s why I’m so excited about it.

The 4Runner is nice inside, but it’s old and I can’t say that it’s stellar. I figured if I reconsidered the TourX is “utility vehicle” and not “luxury wagon”, maybe I’d think of it differently overall. It’s best attributes are that the exterior looks good (subjective, I know) and it has gobs of room inside.

When the Alltrack didn’t cut it space wise for me, the salesman tried to get me in a Touareg. With routinely having 4 in the car and hauling multiple sets of hockey gear, it didn’t work out.
If the TourX felt a little more like an Alltrack, I’d probably be in one now.

That’s awesome!!!
We eventually ended up getting our Terrain Denali for $36k OTD less tax . We bought out of state so we paid tax when we registered it, but that also saved me a few $ because the taxes weren’t rolled into the OTD price and financed. Anways, w e handled everything over the phone/email and I was in and out of the dealership in under 10 minutes.
When the system works like it’s supposed to it’s pretty awesome!

I put the TourX’s interior quality and ride quality on par with my 1994 Voyager. When I jump in a brand new luxury wagon I expect it to be significantly nicer and better riding than the 20+ yo vehicles I’m daily driving, I don’t think that’s too much to ask.
Honestly I didn’t find the inside all the roomy, the rear seats are cramped, and the sloping rear roofline cuts out a lot of useful space behind the seats. I love the styling on them, even with the cladding they manage to look wonderful. The rest of the car we found to be a giant disappointment.

All while feeling cheaper and less luxurious.

For the space I needed, it was plenty, enough for a couple of sets of hockey gear and plenty of rear seat room for my son. Compared to any era of minivan, I’m sure it’s less space, but the interior of my double cab Taco was really cramped in the rear seat . Of the vehicles I test drove, I’d place it slightly ahead of the 4Runner (which still has plenty of room) , miles ahead of the Alltrack, but behind the Wrangler for rear seat space. Of course that was just with a quick seat adjustment and my son sitting behind me, and not googling “rear seat legroom” actual specs.
Even with it being 5/8 the price of the 4Runner, I still went with a 4Runner.

Lol yeah one hockey bag is it for the Alltrack with no real solution for sticks other than putting a seat down and or marking up the interior .
One dealer wanted me to buy a Tiguan over the Alltrack so bad that he made me tell him why I didn’t want the Tiguan...
I would be in an SUV if I needed more room.

You both need to get more creative! Have gone to hockey games with gear in my lap haha...
I also did two years of hockey shuttling in my Z4MC, bag in the back with seats in the passenger side.

The closest I can come to that is getting 4 dudes snowboarding in an E46 M3, boots in the trunk. Passengers holding all 4 boards, everyone wearing all gear, top down.

We drove a lot of vehicles that day. The TourX felt cramped inside even compared to the 2016 Regal GS. I just feel like it is tiny inside for a car it’s size. Definitely not something I would try to put our kids in the back of.
We definitely went into the day with the intention of bringing home a TourX. We even drove more than one just to make sure it wasn’t just a trim thing or “that one car” thing.
We ended up walking away every time. They were all a sea of cheap plastic inside with rock hard seats and almost zero rear visibility. They all rode terribly, you can literally feel every crack in the road. They all had terrible road noise, no bullshit they made my 1995 Acclaim seem quiet/luxurious inside. They all had that terrible trans, fine if you’re just puttering around, but completely lost of you have to call on more power.
Reality is I’m not sure I’ve ever been more disappointed by a car. My wife and I both though the TourX was going to be the “one” for us going in, so we were super pumped for them. Once all was said and done, we walked away at a loss, “ How can they sell something so terrible for $35+K and people are just ok with it ?”. That is/was a question we found ourselves asking often when we were testing vehicles.
